Wadi Bani Ghafir project is aimed at protecting the areas located along the shore of the Gulf of Oman. Moreover, the project aims to improve the groundwater recharge resources of the region.Damsites BG-01 and BG-02 are located on wadi Bani Ghafir, 20 km upstream of the Gulf of Oman.BG 01 dam is extending across the wadi comprising a zoned earthfill embankment with 1 x 500m wide gabion stepped spillway and plastic concrete cut off extended through the main embankment as a core.BG-01 is 5,041 m long with a maximum height above the wadi bed of 16 m. It creates a reservoir allowing the storage of 13,2 Mm3 corresponding to the 500 return flood. BG-01 spillway is located in the left bank. It is designed for the 10,000 years flood (releasing 340 m3/s), and the PMF (releasing 1 800 m3/s). BG-02 is 5 297 m long, with a maximum height of 26,8 m above the wadi bed, with a total fill volume of 4,9 Mm3. It creates a reservoir allowing the storage of 67 Mm3 corresponding to the 500 return flood. BG-02 spillway is located on the right bank. It is designed for the 10,000 years flood (releasing 930 m3/s), and the PMF (releasing 4 730 m3/s). The dams are not constructed yet.
