The project comprises the design of access roads to connect remote villages (in mountainous terrain) to the external road network in the Wilayat of Sohar. There are four locations with access roads of 12km , 3km, 13km and 5 km. The project is very challenging due to the extreme topography resulting in steep slopes.
1) Study of most economical alignments using contour mapping and site reconnaissance
2) Topographic surveying and preliminary design of plan and profiles of the proposed access roads using a maximum grade of 12%
3) Preliminary designs were refined after site checking resulted in modifications to the alignments and drainage structures
4) Hydrological/hydraulic study carried out to determine the wadi structures. Floodway were used in preference to culverts where possible due to the constrained budget for the project
5) Final design and cost estimation
